Is it illegal to ask for ***** and then back out?

If I was to email someone who was giving away their free ***** collection, and then they turn around and tell me to paypal them ANY money, and then I back out and don't want it and that was the end of our transaction (Nothing exchanged, only 4 emails), Can I get charged? Like can I actually go to Jail if I never received or paid for anything, merely suggested that I wanted it?
